VersAbility Resources offers a robust recreation program led by a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. The program focuses on increasing recreational opportunities for people with disabilities. We teach new skills and expand an individual’s social and volunteer activities, which include group yoga, art and music therapy, pet therapy, indoor/outdoor walks, community outings, health education, dancing, and much more. These recreational programs help relieve stress, facilitate positive interactions, and contribute to a general joy of living.
Our Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist finds programs that encourage people with disabilities to achieve recreational proficiencies. Special needs in areas like motor, memory, linguistic, and organizational skills are addressed with a range of activities that are satisfying, structured, and diminish the fear of failure. Some of these same programs are utilized at our Envisions Day Support program. For more information, contact Ashleigh Diehl at email@example.com.
Explorer Post 140 is the largest special needs scouting unit for adults with intellectual and other disabilities in the United States. The ongoing activities lead to new friendships, new skills, and a sense of accomplishment.
Every Monday evening, Post 140 volunteers host a Soc-Hop dance in the gymnasium on the Sarah Bonwell Hudgins Campus and everyone is invited to participate. Other weekly activities include swimming, bowling, and movie nights.
Additionally, Camp Parkitan, a one-week day camp, is held on the campus every summer and serves nearly 300 adults.
If you are interested in Post 140 activities, please call Bill Stinebaugh at 757-868-5132 or (a href=”mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org”>email@example.com. Come join the fun!
