VersAbility Resources is an advocate for policies and programs that support our mission to help people with disabilities live fulfilling lives of their choosing. Our advocacy efforts center on the following:
Reform of the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program: Created to provide financial support to low-income individuals with disabilities, this program places a cap on assets for people with disabilities and restricts their monthly income in order for them to maintain eligibilty to receive benefits, such as access to essential medication. Both caps fail to account for inflationary times and prevent people from disabilities from achieving economic independence and the cushion of a realistic safety net. The SSI program, signed into law by President Richard Nixon, has not been updated since 1989.
VersAbility Resources is an advocate of the bipartisan SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act (S.2767) to reform the SSI program and allow millions of individuals with disabilities to earn and save more money.
Expanding the AbilityOne Program, which provides thousands of essential products and services and supports small businesses in obtaining socio-economic independence. AbilityOne is among the largest sources of employment in the United States for people who are blind or have significant disabilities.
VersAbility Resources is an advocate for doubling the size of the program, which would create 30,000 jobs for people with disabilities, the most untapped talent pool in the nation.
Broadening eligibility of Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) accounts, tax-advantaged savings and investment accounts for individuals with disabilities.
VersAbility Resources is an advocate for expanding eligibility to ABLE Accounts to help individuals save for disability-related expenses without the risk of losing certain federal benefits, such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
Increasing awareness of the capabilities of people with disabilities.
VersAbility is an advocate for a world where people with disabilities enjoy dignified, productive lives of their choosing as fully accepted members of society. We demonstrate our vision through the services, programs, support and employment we provide to more than 1,700 people with disabilities and their families.
