At VersAbility Resources, we believe every person deserves a safe, welcoming and accessible environment, especially the adults with disabilities who rely on our programs every day.
One of our most-used spaces at our Fishing Point location in Newport News is in need of a much-needed flooring update and we’re inviting our community to help us make it safer and more comfortable for everyone who walks, rolls, or is assisted across it.
This is more than a flooring project.
It’s a meaningful safety improvement, a restoration of comfort and dignity and a commitment to ensuring the people we serve have environments worthy of their potential.
A Daily Space With Daily Needs
For years, the flooring in one of our busiest program rooms has been showing clear signs of wear. Today, the tiles are cracked, uneven and deteriorating – and the people using the space are adults with significant disabilities.
To them, a “worn floor” isn’t just a minor inconvenience:
- A small crack can stop a wheelchair or walker in its tracks.
- Uneven tiles can create anxiety for those with sensory sensitivities.
- A subtle shift in flooring can lead to a fall for individuals with visual impairments.
- Direct support professionals must carefully navigate the space while keeping everyone safe at all times.
This space is meant to support learning, engagement and community. But the current flooring makes that more challenging for everyone who depends on it.
Our Goal: Restore Safety and Peace of Mind
We are working to raise $20,000 to replace the damaged flooring and create a safe, stable and accessible environment for the adults who use this space every day.
This upgrade will:
- Remove daily safety risks
- Provide a comfortable, sensory-friendly, confidence-building environment
- Support mobility and independence
- Help our staff deliver the highest level of care our community deserves
