Designed for individuals of all abilities, this hands-on training combines classroom instruction with practical experience to prepare students for real-world job opportunities in industries like shipbuilding, construction, manufacturing and more.


Over six months, participants develop both core and advanced skills in MIG and Stick Welding, including blueprint reading, welding symbol interpretation and essential safety practices. Training includes both classroom instruction and hands-on training where students work directly with structural steel and electric welding projects.

COST

Covered by a grant and FREE to VersAbility TECH participants.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Employment may include naval shipyards, warehouses, industrial plants, commercial stores and more.

WHO SHOULD APPLY

Individuals with good manual dexterity, able to lift over 50 pounds, comfortable working in varying temperatures, detail-oriented and interested in hands-on work.

WHEN

This six month course is divided into two semesters, each lasting three months. Classes held every two days per week. Scheduling varies by semester. Classes offered either:

Monday and Wednesday
6 to 9 p.m.

or

Tuesday and Thursday
6 to 9 p.m.

ELIGIBILITY

People of all abilities 18 years of age and older are eligible to attend this training. Please note any special accommodation requests upon registration.

WHAT IS CONSIDERED A
DOCUMENTED DISABILITY?

Anyone that has been diagnosed with any physical, sensory, intellectual/developmental, and/ or mental/behavioral disability. Providing any of the following will count as proof: An IEP, 504, Doctors diagnosis letter, or DARS (Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services) or DBVI (Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired) Certificate of Disability.

A career specialist will reach out to schedule screening the candidate before registration can commence.
